Mission

Inspire Nebraskans to take actions that improve and beautify our communities

Vision

Nebraska, where every community is a clean, green, beautiful place to live.

Guiding Principles

Acceptance of individual responsibility is essential for the enhancement of community environments. Education is the foundation for responsible individual action toward the environment. The most effective community partnerships include representation from the public, private, and civic sectors.

History

Keep Nebraska Beautiful was founded in 1964 at the direction of then-Governor Frank Morrison. From its inception, Keep Nebraska Beautiful has been a nonprofit focused on waste reduction, recycling, and community beautification. In 1980, Keep Nebraska Beautiful became the state affiliate for Keep America Beautiful. As the state affiliate, Keep Nebraska Beautiful remains an independent nonprofit which coordinates Keep America Beautiful events in the State of Nebraska, such as the Great American Cleanup, America Recycles Day, Recycle Bowl, and National Planting Day. Over the years, 20 local affiliates throughout the state have joined Keep Nebraska Beautiful as Keep America Beautiful affiliates. These affiliates are educational and community-improvement programs that address local needs such as litter awareness, litter cleanups, beatification, reuse and recycling programs, and neighborhood revitalization.Keep Nebraska Beautiful receives funding from grants, memberships, fundraisers, and donors. We are grateful for the generosity of our members and supporters, and we deeply appreciate the grant support of the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy.
